چکیده

T he National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH) is the federal agency that conducts research and makes recommendations for preventing work-related injuries, illnesses, and deaths. The NIOSH Nanotechnology Research Center coordinates the Institute’s laboratory, field, and information dissemination activities on the development of tools, practices, and recommendations for the guidance document Approaches to Safe Nanotechnology (http://www.cdc.gov/niosh/ topics/nanotech/safenano/). A key input to the development of that document is field research studies. The NIOSH nanotechnology field research team has the objective of characterizing processes where engineered nanomaterials are produced or used. To do this, the field team

Efficiency of a tool-mounted local exhaust ventilation system for controlling dust exposure during metal grinding operations.

In general, control of metal dust from hand-held disk grinders is difficult because such respirable dust tends to disperse in every direction around the grinding wheel and cannot be captured effectively by a conventional exhaust hood. The author described the application of a custom-made tool-mounted local exhaust ventilation (LEV) system attached to a hand-held disk grinder, and by laboratory ...

The efficacy of local exhaust ventilation for controlling dust exposures during concrete surface grinding.

This study assessed the effectiveness of a commercially available local exhaust ventilation (LEV) system for controlling respirable dust and crystalline silica exposures during concrete grinding activities. Surface grinding was conducted at six commercial building construction sites in Seattle, WA, by cement masons. Time-integrated filter samples and direct reading respirable dust concentration...

Designing, construction, assessment, and efficiency of local exhaust ventilation in controlling crystalline silica dust and particles, and formaldehyde in a foundry industry plant.

The purpose of the present study was to design and assess the efficiency of a local exhaust ventilation system used in a foundry operation to control inhalable dust and particles, microcrystal particles, and noxious gases and vapours affecting workers during the foundry process. It was designed based on recommendations from the American Conference of Governmental Industrial Hygiene. After desig...

Efficiency of Dust Capture from Metal Grinding

According to the Machinery Directive 2006/42/EC, one of the essential requirements relating to occupational safety and health hazards is to prevent dust pollution emitted by machinery during the implementation processes. Research on evaluation of emissions from machinery, according to the method of test bench using tracer gases, are currently being conducted in CIOP-PIB. This article presents s...

Local exhaust ventilation for the control of welding fumes in the construction industry--a literature review.

Arc welding is a common unit operation in the construction industry, where frequent changes in location and welding position make it more difficult to control fume exposures than in industries where fixed locations are the norm. Welders may be exposed to a variety of toxic airborne contaminants including manganese (Mn) and hexavalent chromium (CrVI). Local exhaust ventilation (LEV) is a well-kn...
